Ghent Film Festival pays tribute to Tati in an exceptional exhibition

More than 60 years after Jacques Tati’s first feature film, the Ghent Film Festival wants to give the French director, actor and comedian a worthy tribute. In order to bring the world of Tati fully to life, the Province of East Flanders is putting on the exhibition 'JACQUES TATI: In Double Quick Time' in the Caermersklooster - Provincial Cultural Centre on the initiative of and in collaboration with the Ghent Film Festival. It will be produced by the Cinemathèque Française in collaboration with Les Films de Mon Oncle. The exhibition will run from 15 October 2010 to 16 January 2011.

  • Film Festival Ghent celebrates 10th anniversary World Soundtrack Awards The World Soundtrack Awards, an awards presentation honoring the best in film music established by the Ghent International Film Festival’s World Soundtrack Academy in 2001, has announced an all star line up to usher in its 10th year. Ten world class composers will be appearing live in concert at the awards presentation in Ghent, Belgium on October 23rd. Those confirmed include Oscar winners Howard Shore (Lord Of The Rings), Elliot Goldenthal (Frida), Gabriel Yared (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Gustavo Santaolalla (Motorcycle Diaries), Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare In Love) as well as Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks), Craig Armstrong (Love Actually), Alberto Iglesias (Todo Sobre Mi Madre), Bruno Coulais (Océans), Frédéric Devreese (Un Soir, Un Train) and brilliant young composer Nico Muhly (The Reader)

  • Registrations Ghent Film Festival composition competition openedThe annual composition competition organised by the Ghent Film Festival with the support of SABAM kicks off once again. Young European film music composers are given the chance to compete for the prize of 2,500 Euros. In addition, they can have their composition performed live by the Brussels Philharmonic – the Flemish Radio Orchestra during the presentation of the World Soundtrack Awards on 23 October. This is the official closing event of the 37th Ghent Film Festival (12-23 October 2010). Applicants can register up to and including 30 June 2010.

    Piracy threatens Europe's creative industries

    The creative industries are 'a crucial source of jobs and growth' in Europe, but are under threat from piracy, according to a study released Wednesday. The study predicts piracy-related losses of as many as 1.2 million jobs and €240 billion in retail revenue by 2015 in the creative sectors most impacted if current trends continue and no significant policy changes are put into place. Industry union representatives used the findings to call for increased regulatory protections for the entertainment sector.
