De film THE END OF THE TOUR en THE GREEN INFERNO zullen niet met Nederlands/Franse ondertitels getoond worden, zoals aangekondigd in de Knack Focus Programmagids. De films zijn beiden Engels gesproken.

The whodunnit genre usually offers little of a moral dilemma for its protagonist, often a superbly rational Poirot character whose only goal is putting the pieces together and flaunting his evidence in the film’s epilogue. In the Romanian anti-thriller ‘One Floor Below’ however, the tables are turned when unlikely hero Patrascu (Teodor Corban) –a good-natured, wisecracking slob – is confronted with his own conscience in the aftermath of a possible homicide in his apartment building. Patrascu seems highly incapable of solving this murder mystery, due to an almost religious commitment to established routines, such as morning walks accompanied by cherished pet Labrador and rooting for the Barcelona squad in Champions League games with his drinking buddies.

In a revealing, central scene in Jamshed Mahmoudi’s ‘A Few Cubic Meters of Love’, a settlement of Afghani refugees on the Iranian side of the shared national border goes about its daily rituals: iron hits iron, wood is polished, a sparse meal is improvised, afternoon prayers are read – when suddenly, in the distance: sirens. A boy-Friday rushes down the mole-hill, screaming at his Iranian boss: ‘Police! The police is here!’ And then, shit goes down.

A little bit of everything can easily turn into a whole lot of nothing. Thomas Bidegain’s directorial debut ‘Les Cowboys’ hovers somewhere in between genres, never settling on whether it wants to be a western, a melodrama, a detective story or, judging by its abrupt exotic excursion to Afghanistan, the latest installment in The Adventures of Tintin: Tintin and the Jihadist.

'Follow' is een langspeelfilm gelanceerd door middel van sociale mediaplatformen. In de film worden tien verhalen gepresenteerd die zich allemaal in Gent afspelen. Het project werd in 2013 opgezet voor de 40e editie van Film Fest Gent. Ook dit jaar werden er scripts ingezameld en hebben vrijwilligers een nieuwe editie van Follow Gent gerealiseerd. Mis de avant-premiere van deze mooie mozaïekfilm niet!

Vandaag raadt Patrick 'Harold and Lillian: A Hollywood Love Story' aan, een documentaire over een prachtig liefdesverhaal van een koppel waar je waarschijnlijk nog nooit over gehoord hebt, maar je hele leven lang mee in contact bent gekomen.

Voor de vijftiende verjaardagseditie van de World Soundtrack Awards op 24 oktober, verwelkomt Film Fest Gent Alan Silvestri, een van de meest briljante filmcomponisten van zijn generatie, bekend voor zijn muziek uit 'Back to the Future' en 'Forrest Gump'. Brussels Philharmonic & Vlaams Radio Koor, o.l.v. Dirk Brossé, brengen de meeslepende muziek van Alan Silvestri, Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Patrick Doyle en Discovery 2014 Daniel Pemberton live, begeleid door filmfragmenten op groot scherm.

Ooit al eens hoorn- en cellomuziek als mist uit de grond zien komen? Het overkwam een driehonderdtal deelnemers aan het jaarlijks door Film Fest Gent georganiseerde Filmmuziekseminarie dat in het teken stond van de Britse filmmuziek. Voor dat misteffect is componist George Fenton verantwoordelijk in de openingsscène van Ken Loach’s ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’.

De internationale jury van Film Fest Gent, onder leiding van voorzitter Alan Parker, maakte op woensdag 21 oktober de winnaars bekend in de verschillende competities van Film Fest Gent. Na de vertoning van ‘Mister Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown’, de door Alex Gibney geregisseerde documentaire die de periode belicht waarin James Brown zich lustig heupwiegend opwerkte van straatschoffie tot meest gesamplede artiest aller tijden, wordt iedereen verwacht voor een allerlaatste dansfeest!
