Jury 1983

10e Internationaal Filmgebeuren van Vlaanderen 1983

For the jubilee edition - the tenth edition will take place from 14 to 27 October 1983 - the non-profit organisation will be renamed " Internationaal Filmgebeuren van Vlaanderen - Gent ". More than ever, the festival aims to appeal not only to cinephiles, but to a wide audience.

This year, 112 avant-premières are programmed and for the competition there is a collaboration with the Festival van Vlaanderen based around the theme "War and Peace". The jury includes painter Octaaf Landuyt, Dutch director Orlow Seunke, French director Clarie Clouzot, Swedish actress and film director Mai Zetterling and British director Jack Clayton. Three prizes will be awarded: one by the City of Ghent, one by the Lotto and one by the Festival van Vlaanderen.

The programme further follows the same pattern as previous editions and includes "a selection of films unreleased for Belgium, Flanders or Ghent". The opening film this year is Local Hero with director Bill Forsyth in attendance. Another big guest in 1983 is Peter Greenaway, who presents his film The Draughtsman's Contract.
