29e Internationaal Filmfestival van Vlaanderen-Gent 2002

During the 29th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (8 - 19 October 2002), there will be two world premieres of Belgian films, Hop by Dominique Standaert (the opening film) and Science Fiction. The closing film this year is The Four Feathers by Shekhar Kapur. This year there will also be a series of specials, including Milos Forman's director's cut of Amadeus, the 70 mm projection of Playtime by Jacques Tati, and the film Les Guerriers de la Beauté after the work of Jan Fabre.

Both French and Flemish cinema receive a double homage this year. The cooperations between director François Truffaut and composer Georges Delerue are honoured as well as the films that director Roland Verhavert and producer Jan Van Raemdonck made together. Verhavert and Van Raemdonck are also both honoured with a Joseph Plateau Award. The same goes for actress Hanna Schygulla, who is also present at the festival for a fascinating retrospective of the work of Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

The Impact of Music on Film translates apart from the official competition to a number of special events, including the film music seminar, the silent film Elle! Louise Brooks at the Vlaamse Opera and the major film music concert Fenton-Delerue: A Film Music Celebration during the presentation of the World Soundtrack Awards.
