This first wave of the 2017 World Soundtrack Award Nominees includes multiple Academy Award® winners and nominees, a past Discovery of the Year nominee, and the best of contemporary film and television music.

After announcing the nominees of the World Soundtrack Awards earlier this month, the 44th Film Gest Gent now reveals its lineup of the official competition. The selection consists of twelve films, including world premieres of 'The Butcher, The Whore & the One-Eyed Man' by János Szász and first feature 'Zagros' by Sahim Omar Kalifa. Followed by various Benelux premieres of international festival favorites such as 'Call me by your Name', 'A Ciambra', The Killing of a Sacred Deer' & 'Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri'.

Terence Blanchard, Joe Kraemer and David Shire will answer all your questions at the press conference on 19 October at the Theaterzaal of Vooruit Ghent.

Yesterday night, the 44th edition of Film Fest Gent kicked off with the Belgian premiere of Philippe Van Leeuw’s award-winning drama ‘Insyriated’, attended by the director and actress Juliette Navis. During the opening night, a Joseph Plateau Honorary Award was also given to Pierre Drouot, the CEO of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF).

Photogénie and Film Fest Gent proudly present the 4th Young Critics Workshop (October 12 – 20, 2017), open to aspiring film critics (aged 18-26) from Belgium and abroad, offering them the opportunity to cover the 44th edition. The participants cover the festival by writing both short reviews and an in-depth piece. ‘Zagros’, the debut feature by Belgian-Kurdish director Sahim Omar Kalifa, has been awarded the Grand Prix for Best Film at Film Fest Gent's Closing Night, while Jonas Carpignano’s coming-of-age drama ‘A Ciambra’, scooped the Georges Delerue Award for Best Music.

Film Fest Gent welcomes Carter Burwell as central guest at the 18th World Soundtrack Awards. Never before has music of the globally acclaimed composer, especially known through his collaboration with the Coen Brothers, been performed live.

Young international film music talent will have the chance to win the highly sought after SABAM Award for the Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer. This award was created by the World Soundtrack Academy and is worth € 2.500. The compositions of the three finalists will be performed by Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, during the 19th World Soundtrack Awards on 18 October 2019.

The very first title of the 45th Film Fest Gent has been announced. The series 'Over Water' by Paul Baeten Gronda, Tom Lenaerts & Norman Bates takes place in the renowned city and the port of Antwerp. The festival will screen the first two episodes in the section 'Serial Madness'.
