World Soundtrack Awards Film Music Composition Contest - Apply now!
Every year, Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Academy offer young talent the opportunity to win renown as a film music composer. Candidates can follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Logan Nelson and countless other composers who attended previous editions of the festival, such as Angelo Badalamenti, Dario Marianelli, Gustavo Santaolalla, Hans Zimmer, John Powell, Maurice Jarre, Howard Shore, Alberto Iglesias, Elliot Goldenthal and others.

A jury composed out of international film and music professionals will carefully select the final compositions. These finalists (3) will be invited to a fantastic three-day visit in Ghent where they will have the chance to get in touch with international film music professionals.
Candidates must be under 36 years old and will be asked to compose a symphonic score for a scene from the occult thriller 'Don't Look Now' by the late director Nicolas Roeg.
"Nicolas Roeg, who has died aged 90, could, during the 1970s, lay claim to be Britain’s leading director. His output was variable but, taken overall, constituted a forceful, provocative and original body of work.
From his early years as a clapper boy, Roeg had progressed to world-class cinematographer before, by the late 60s, he was ready to direct, although it is unlikely that even the most prescient observer would have anticipated the dazzling quintet of movies (Performance; Don’t Look Now; Walkabout; The Man Who Fell to Earth; Bad Timing) that followed. Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, will perform the three compositions at the 19th World Soundtrack Awards October 18 at the prestigious Capitole in Ghent. Afterwards, the winner of the SABAM Award for the Most Original Composition by a Young International Composer will be announced.
