The World Soundtrack Academy releases the list of nominees for the three principal categories in the World Soundtrack Awards, the most pre-eminent international prizes for the recognition of film music: Soundtrack Composer of the Year, Best Original Soundtrack of the Year - Orchestral and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film. The names of the winners will be announced in Ghent on Saturday, October 14.

Gale Force 10, the new Flemish film by Hans Herbots, will have its world premiere on Friday, October 6 on the eve of the 33rd edition of the Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent. Gale Force 10 will be the official opening film of the Festival Previews section. The opening itself promises to be an impressive spectacle, thanks to the cooperation of the 40th Sea King squadron.

On the occasion of the Stanley Kubrick Exhibition in the Caermersklooster and the retrospective that will be shown at the Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent, the festival will be holding 'An Evening with Stanley Kubrick'. Patrick Duynslaegher, editor in chief of Focus Knack, will be talking to Jan Harlan, producer of Stanley Kubrick's last four films, and author Michel Ciment, who wrote Kubrick's biography.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Tom Tykwer (Lola Rennt, Heaven) will open the competition of the 33rd edition of the Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent on Wednesday October 11. This film is based on Patrick Süskind's best-selling novel of the same title from 1985, of which more than 15 million copies have been sold worldwide. The film attracted no fewer than 250,000 film lovers to the cinemas when it premiered in Germany.

In a first for Flanders, the International Film Festival - Ghent in conjunction with the non-profit association "De Vrienden der Blinden" is organising a film showing on October 17 for the blind and partially sighted. The film that has been selected is Erik van Looy's The Alzheimer Case, with commentary provided by Herbert Bruynseels. People with a visual disability too will therefore have the chance for once to enjoy an evening at the pictures!

With 169 feature-length films and 65 short films, collectively good for 19,468 minutes of cinema and 596 screenings spread over 14 days, Ghent will once again be transformed into the City of Film during the period of October 11 through October 21. The 33rd edition of the Flanders Film Festival - Ghent focuses on film legend Stanley Kubrick, pays homage to Belgian-French director Agnès Varda, and draws more than 150 talented guests from the world of film to the Flemish city.

On Wednesday 4th the prestigious Kubrick exhibition in the Caermersklooster was officially opened in the presence of Mrs. Christiane Kubrick, Kubrick's producer Jan Harlan, set designer Sir Ken Adam and many other prominent figures. Until January 2007 you can have a look behind the screens of Eyes Wide Shut, A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Lolita and other milestones in the history of film. After the successful venues in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main and Melbourne, Ghent has been granted the exclusive opportunity to host this unique exhibition in the Benelux.

The Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent is proud to announce that the following guests will attend the 33rd edition of the Festival: Tom Tykwer, who will open the Festival's Competition with Perfume: The Story of a Murderer on October 11, Paul Verhoeven, director of the closing film Black Book, and Darren Aronofsky, one of Hollywood's most original filmmakers who will be presenting The Fountain in Ghent. They complete the Festival's guest list of over 150 people, bringing a wide range of film talent to Ghent.

Alberto Iglesias is the big winner of the World Soundtrack Awards 2006. He won both the Award of Soundtrack Composer of the Year and Best Original Soundtrack of the year with the music he wrote for The Constant Gardener. The prestigious film music awards were presented during the 33rd Flanders International Film Festival Ghent on Saturday October 14 for the sixth time running.

Ten Canoes by Rolf de Heer and Peter Djigirr has won the Grand Prize for Best Film at the 33rd Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent. The international jury, under the chairmanship of Jan Harlan, announced the winner on Saturday evening. The ceremony was followed by a screening of the closing film Black Book in the presence of director Paul Verhoeven. The Festival was closed in style with a masked ball at Arts Centre Vooruit.
