About the film

Les Barons follows Moroccan Hassan and his group of friends, known as the 'Les Barons', who spend their time hanging out, lounging around, and doing as little as possible. However, Hassan starts to grow tired of the aimless lifestyle as a 'baron'; he dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian. Yet, his friends don't support his ambitious plans, and his father expects him to follow in his footsteps as a bus driver. Trouble escalates when Hassan falls in love with the beautiful Malika, sister of the eldest 'baron' Mounir. As the saying goes, 'Don't touch your friend's sister, because she's like your friend with long hair.

What drives you as an artist? What do you want to achieve? And above all, what do you need to achieve your goals?

The teenage and youth work of VZW Jong has been working on talent development for quite some time. In recent years, they have invested heavily in a cross-district music project called "Gentertainment" to create artistic opportunities for youth in Ghent. Music functions as the ultimate binding agent to support and encourage (Ghent's) youth both artistically and socially. "Whether you sing, rap, produce, DJ or play an instrument, Gentertainment is all about your passion and talent". Currently, the focus is on the musical part but they want to open this up to film, among other things.
