A little town in Holland, in the sixties. Nurse Klivia runs a nursing home. Her guests are a colourful bunch of troublesome misfits. Her grasping landlord, the evil Mister Boordevol, strenuously strives to put Klivia and her lively patients out on the street. He plans to turn her home into an expensive boarding house for rich old women. One night, someone tries to break into the home. Klivia catches Gerrit, the thief, in the act. As he shows remorse, she allows him to live with them. That afternoon, the engineer has made a pill that turns evil people into good ones. He tests it on Boordevol's cat. To everyone's amazement, it works. But unfortunately, Boordevol learns that his cat has been experimented on. For him, this is the reason to close the nursing home down. While he is pleading his case in court, Gerrit swaps his coughing pill with one of the engineer …
