The Film Sound Seminar, annually organized by Film Festival Ghent and the School of Arts (Hogeschool Gent), is proud to welcome Michel Schöpping. A logical choice, cause the Dutch sound designer looms large on this year's program. Martine Huvenne, film music teacher at Hogeschool Gent is once again the curator of the seminar.

The Almost Cinema festival by Vooruit and the Film Festival Ghent is a favourite on the Vooruit agenda. Central to the event is the twelve-day exhibition at Vooruit which shows a different take on cinema. In the form of projections and installations, artists present their interpretation of cinema. You will also be able to enjoy plenty of unique concerts and performances inspired by cinema. Once again, Almost Cinema will present interesting artists, artworks and performances that provide a refreshing look at a familiar concept.

In order to guide you through the program, we broke it down into several sections and parcours who cluster thematically connected films or films for certain target groups.

The space is there, the life-size pictures as well and the costumes are read-to-wear. Only the Viennese waltz is missing to bring Romy Schneider to life on the exhibition dedicated to her. Because you will have the impression she is actually alive after you've seen the letters, film clips and the costumes.

Nicolas Karakatsanis has won the Jo Röpcke Award 2012. The prize, named after the legendary film critic Jo Röpcke, is awarded annually by the magazine Knack Focus during the Ghent Film Festival and goes to a man or a woman who made a remarkable contribution to the success of the Flemish cinema.

Ezra Miller, the leading actor from the controversial film 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' will present Stephen Chbosky's 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' at the Ghent Film Festival on Thursday October 18. Besides Miller, the film also stars Emma Watson (from the Harry Potter series) , Logan Lerman ('Percy Jackson & The Olympians: the Lightning Thief'). It will be the third time Ezra makes an appearance on the festival, after 'CIty Island' with Andy Garcia in 2009 and 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' with Tilda Swinton in 2011.

On the occasion of the current exhibition Fables from the 16th century Flemish landscape at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lille, Flagey had the idea to organize its own Festival of the Imaginary that runs from 16 to 28 October 2012. Ten days of concerts, films and concert films around the theme of the imaginary. Let's sum up the most important events:

Today, October 17th, director Miguel Gomes' feature film 'Tabu' has won the Grand Prix for Best Film at the 39th Ghent Film Festival. The international festival jury, chaired by Joan Dupont, announced the results of the jury's deliberations at Ghent's town hall. The other films that received awards are Olivier Assayas' feature film, 'Après Mai' (Best Music and Sound Design) and the short films 'As Ondas' by Miguel Fonseca (Best European Short Film) and 'De Naam van de Vader' by Timothy Josha Wennekes (Best Belgian Student Short Film). 'Kid' by Fien Troch received a Special Mention.

The 41st edition of Film Fest Gent (14-25 October 2014) is focusing on French cinema. The annually recurring sections will be complemented by a separate one-off section dedicated to recent French films (as was the case last year with American Independent Cinema). However, this doesn’t mean that French films won’t also feature in the other festival sections (Competition, Galas & Previews, Classics, Out of the Box and Artists on Film). French directors and actors have been invited to present their latest films to the festival audience. The programme also includes debates, Q&As, director talks and meetings with French film professionals. We are collaborating closely with UniFrance and, of course, with Belgian distributors for the development of the programme and the invitation of talented French film professionals.
