Set in 'swinging London', it centers on two young men - Tolen, who has a genius for seduction, and his shy friend Colin, who is desperate to acquire the knack. Rita Tushingham plays Nancy,
the kooky provincial who turns out to be Tolen's nemesis and Colin's heart's desire. Filming the
memorable scene in which the young people trundle a vast, ornate bed across London the
startled and disapproving reactions of bystanders to this latest expression of the 'youth revolution' and these reactions are used in the film, along with suitable verbal comments, to provide a
kind of Greek chorus of conformist middle-aged grouches. Indeed, everyone over thirty is
presented as 'square' to the point of insanity...
