The Death of a Composer: Rosa, a Horse Drama

Director Peter Greenaway Composer Louis Andriessen Cast Lyndon Terracini, Miranda van Kralingen, Marie Angel
90' - 1999 - Music/Musical - Dialogue: English
Between 1945 and 1980 ten composers were murdered. The first was Anton Webern, the last John Lennon. The circumstances in which the ten composers died show too many similarities for them be dismissed as mere coincidence. The question one is then compelled to ask is whether it is a conspiracy against music. The sixth in the series of composers to be murdered was Juan Manuel de Rosa, and it is his death that will be examined in this film. This will be done by reconstructing the period preceding Rosa’s death and the days that followed. The investigation is led by the Investigatrix, assisted by the Commentatrice and two Gigolos. In the course of the reconstruction, these four persons appear in other guises, as they assume the part of people who may have been connected in some way with Rosa’s murder. But things become even more complicated.
