Following the death of his father, Mehrollah (14) leaves his village and heads for the city to make enough money to support his mother and sisters. He is gone for a long time and when he returns home he is shocked to discover that his mother has re-married. It makes it worse that they have moved to a bigger home. Mehrollah considers his mother's sudden marriage an insulting implication that he was not man enough to support them. He therefore rejects his stepfather and refuses to enter the new house, preferring instead to live in the old home. His best friend Latif acts as a go-between for Mehrollah and his family. The angry young boy vents his feelings by vandalising his mother's new home. Until one day he becomes terribly ill…
