The healing effect of love on both patient and psychiatrist is one of the centraL themes of Il Grande Cocomero. This is the story of a young psychiatrist, Artur, and a 12-year-old girl, Pippi, intuitive enough to suspect that her epilepsy has emotional and not physical causes. The film is based on the real-life story of psychiatrist Marco Lombardo Radiee, who stirred up scientific thinking in Italy by being one of the first to reject the traditional drug based cures for his young patients in favor of a combined form of therapy.
