A remote coastal settlement in northern Iceland. Boas is the eleven-year-old son of the local priest. One day he sees a strange furry creature drifting ashore on an iceman. The superstitious villagers believe it to be an emissary of the devil and the cause of the hardship brought on by a severe winter and they decide to kill it. When Boas tries to prevent this he sets off an avalanche that engulfs his parents’ house and buries him beneath the snow. The creature succeeds in digging him out of his snowy grave. Boas and his parents show their gratitude by taking the boy, who speaks a strange language, into their house. The only word that they understand is “Ikingut”, so Boas assumes it is the boy’s name. Finally Ikingut proves to be a blessing rather than a curse and the villagers are forced to reconsider their beliefs and prejudices. (press kit)
