Dr. Mabuse, boss of a multinational press organisation, has thought up an unscrupulous plan for further expansion. In the course of a nightmare journey by night through the city she shows and explains the world to him : "We allow him to experience all those things our readers don't even dare to dream of." During the premiere of an opera the narcissist, spectator, encounters his mirror image on the stage in the time of the Spanish Conquistadors -and his great love Andamana : "I, Don Luis de Ja Cerna, rightly called prince of Good Fortune."
