Set in the world-famous wine region of Burgundy, Burgundy takes a look at the often eccentric figures involved in the centuries-old process of producing the very best wines. It explores both the day-to-day struggles of the veterans and the grand dreams of the novices learning the trade from them. It’s not all sunshine and roses; sometimes you taste cork, too. The poetic documentary style of the American duo Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw has come to fruition in recent years in The Truffle Hunters (2020) and Gaucho Gaucho (2024). With their discerning eye (Dweck is an acclaimed photographer), a subtle touch of retro and self-deprecating humour, they cheerfully observe the tension between tradition and innovation. In the words of wine merchant Bertrand: "Great wine is the sum of details, each of which has little meaning, but when combined, everything changes." Burgundy raises a glass to love and passion with a bittersweet aftertaste.
