Everybody to Kenmure Street

In May 2021, a quiet morning on Kenmure Street, Glasgow, is abruptly disrupted when the UK Home Office attempts to arrest and deport two residents. The news spreads rapidly via messages and social media: neighbours leave their homes, work and daily routines to gather around the police van. What begins as a spontaneous reaction grows into a massive, peaceful blockade. Using smartphone footage from those present, archive material and testimonies – including a remarkable narration by Emma Thompson – Felipe Bustos Sierra reconstructs this extraordinary day. He situates the event within the long history of resistance and solidarity in Glasgow, from labour movements to contemporary activism.
