Ann (30) is divorced and bringing up her son Danny (10) all by herself . She falls passionately in love with Badry (17), an illegal Algerian, who just arrived in the country and seeks political asylum. While they are getting to know each other, Badry has to stay in her flat, in hiding. Ann tries to get a temporary residence permit through her friend Lydia, but Danny feels threatened by Badry's presence. A violent demonstration against stricter refugee laws heats up the city. An Algerian friend tries to convince Badry to take part in the demonstration, but he hesitates to leave his hiding place. In the meantime Ann has a hard time defending her privacy against her mother and her ex-husband, who try to find out her new lover's identity.
