We are delighted to present the new campaign for the 53rd edition of Film Fest Gent (7–18 October 2026)! This spatial campaign builds on the last three years, including the vibrant colours. New this year is the dark backdrop – as befits a real cinema – and a focus on moving images and an immersive experience. With this, the new campaign gives a nod to the silver screen.

European Composer & Songwriting Alliance (ECSA) receives this year’s WSA Industry Award from Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Academy. This award recognises ECSA’s work in making the (screen) music industry more fair and transparent.

Finalists announced for the WSA Film Music Composition Contest 2026 02 Jul 2026
Film Fest Gent is proud to announce the three finalists of the 2026 WSA Film Music Composition Contest: Yeakun Yoo (South Korea), Lidia Pozo Pérez (Spain) and Xabier Doural García (Spain) have been selected for their original symphonic scores for an excerpt from Ryan Murphy & Evan Romansky's TV show Ratched (2020). The winner of the World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer Powered by Vienna Synchron Stage will be announced during the World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert on 10 October 2026.
Classics 2026: Éric Rohmer 08 Jul 2026
During the 53rd edition of Film Fest Gent (7 - 18 Oct) the film festival’s Classics programme looks back at the work of director Éric Rohmer. The Frenchman was a key figure in the innovative nouvelle vague film movement and made “small” films about “small” subjects (love, fidelity, infidelity, seduction, jealousy) in which his characters come across as brilliant conversationists. The bulk of his work consists of three cycles that he realised between the 1960s and 1990s.
Award-winning 'Coward' by Lukas Dhont opens 53rd Film Fest Gent 14 Jul 2026
Coward, the third feature film by Lukas Dhont, is the official opening film of Film Fest Gent 2026. On Wednesday 7 October, Dhont will kick off the international film festival for the third time. Coward, which has won an award at the Cannes Film Festival, follows young soldiers trying to keep up their morale in the trenches during the First World War.
