20,000 Days on Earth, a documentary about singer and culture icon Nick Cave by the artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, will have its Belgian premiere at the 41st Film Fest Gent. The surprising and heartfelt film is the second title of the renewed music section Sound and Vision: presented by Spotify.

Following the 41st Film Fest Gent’s focus on France, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to French composer Francis Lai at the 14th World Soundtrack Awards.

Besides Film Composer of the Year, the World Soundtrack Academy also published the nominees in the categories for Best Original Film Score of the Year and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film. The WSAwards, one of the most prestigious events in the world of film music, is the closing event of Film Fest Gent and will take place on 25 October at Kuipke in Ghent.

Film Fest Gent annualy organises the Film Music Seminar in collaboration with the University College Gent, School of Arts and curated by dr. Martine Huvenne. Year after year, famous and important professionals of the film music industry teach participants about film music or sound design.

Not only several concerts celebrate the beauty of film music, but also films in the Sound and Vision-section show documentaries, fiction about concerts, musicians and music styles and cross over the boundaries of the classical film genre.
