Robert Zemeckis’ forthcoming thriller ‘The Walk’, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit, the charismatic high-wire artist who unforgettably traversed the Twin Towers in 1974, will pre-open the 42nd Film Fest Gent (FFGent). In addition to 'The Walk' FFGent will also hold a ‘Back to the Future’ marathon in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Zemeckis’ famous trilogy. Finally the festival will close with the 15th World Soundtrack Awards, including the concert premiere of the film music of 'The Walk' in the presence of its central guest and composer Alan Silvestri.

‘The Walk’ stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit, the French aerial artist who in 1974 walked a tightrope strung between the Twin Towers. Gordon-Levitt stars with Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz and Charlotte Le Bon. Artistic director Patrick Duynslaegher: "We are very pleased to pre-open the 42nd Film Fest Gent with the lastest “tour de force” by Robert Zemeckis. It’s extraordinary how Zemeckis remains to be a commercially successful director as well a filmmaker that keeps true to his unique style and worldview. And above all he’s still a brilliant innovator. Many of his films are technically groundbreaking (‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, ‘Back to the Future' , 'Contact', 'Flight'). It seems like with each new movie he accepts another cinematic challenge. With the 3D wizardry used in ‘The Walk’ Zemeckis fully immerses the viewer in to the crazy adventures of Philippe Petit. The fact that the mythical towers no longer exist makes his stunts even more unreal and heroic."

On Wednesday 21 October 2015 Film Fest Gent will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Back to the Future’. During the festival the complete trilogy by Robert Zemeckis will be screened on the official #BTTFDAY! Finally for the last 15 years the festival will close with the annual World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert. This year’s central guest is composer Alan Silvestri, who will be attending the event on 24 October 2015. His score for ‘The Walk’ will have its concert premiere during the World Soundtrack Awards. The best scores of Silvestri were also performed by Brussels Philharmonic and Flemish Radio Choir, conducted by Dirk Brossé and recorded at the Flagey Studios by Galaxy Studios. Silva Screen Records Limited will release the album with the start of the festival in October.
