She Said is based on the New York Times bestseller She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement, about the investigation into Harvey Weinstein and the #metoo movement.

Closing the 49th Film Fest Gent, She Said is actress-turned-director Maria Schrader’s (Unorthodox) first English-language feature and her second selection for Film Fest Gent, after last year’s I Am Your Man.

Synopsis

Starring two-time Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) and Zoe Kazan (The Plot Against America, The Big Sick), the investigative drama details the journey of New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, who together broke one of the most important stories in a generation - a story that shattered decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood, altered American culture forever and exposed film mogul Harvey Weinstein’s history of abuse and sexual misconduct against women. She Said follows the reporters and editors engaged in the unrelenting pursuit of the truth and highlights the courage of survivors and witnesses who chose to come forward to stop a serial predator in his tracks. Together, their commitment and fortitude sparked an international conversation, helped propel the #MeToo movement, and fuelled a reckoning of the system that had enabled him.

The film co-stars Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson (Shutter island, Pieces of April), Emmy winner Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street, Thief) and Tony winner Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty, Pride and Prejudice), with Academy Award nominee Samantha Morton (Minority Report, In America). The screenplay was written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, screenwriter of the Oscar winning film Ida. Multiple World Soundtrack Award-winning composer Nicholas Britell provided the original score for the film. Britell is nominated for the 2022 Television Composer of the Year Award at the World Soundtrack Awards, the annual film music prizes of Film Fest Gent.

She Said is produced by Academy Award winners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B Entertainment and is executive produced by Oscar winner Brad Pitt and Lila Yacoub and by Oscar nominee Megan Ellison and Sue Naegle for Annapurna Pictures. Universal Pictures presents an Annapurna & Plan B production.

She Said will be released in Belgium by Sony Pictures/Universal Pictures on 23 November.
