Already 75.000 tickets sold!

The 35th edition of the Ghent International Film Festival has a record! In total there are 75.000 tickets sold of which 35.000 were sold at the anniversary price of 5 euro! The sales of the tickets has gone up by 12 % compared to last year. The reactions of the public are mainly positive and the media covering is larger than ever!

This anniversary action - meaning that the first 35.000 tickets are sold for a special price of 5 euro - has been a real success! The festival has never sold as much places in pre-sales, today we have sold more tickets on-line than last year over the whole period! The festival has still a lot to offer this week. Tonight the series of concerts of filmmusic will kick off with John Williams. Wednesday the 15th , the composer Gabriel Yared will be honouring the director Anthony Minghella, Thursday the 16th Clint Mansell and the Sonus Quartet will be performing atmospheric tunes from the director Darren Aronofsky, Friday the 17th an evening with folkmusic by the folk rock sensation Kadril and Saturday the 18th the festival will end with the 35th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards. Regarding the films, the festival has also still many to offer. Tonight two Belgian films will go on premiere : Elève Libre by Joachim Lafosse and Vinyan by Fabrice du Welz. Joachim Lafosse, Jonathan Zaccaï, Fabrice du Welz and Emmanuelle Béart will be present. Monday the 13th the scriptwriter and director Guillermo Arriaga will present the film The Burning Plain together with the producers Walter F. Parkes et Laurie MacDonald. This duo will receive a Joseph Plateau Award for the whole of their carriere. The same day Andreas Dresen (Cloud 9), Eric Khoo (My Magic) and Samira Makmalbaf (Two-Legged Horse) will present their film to the public of Ghent. Tuesday the 14th, Walter Salles will present Linha de Passe and Wednesday the 15th the winners of the Official Competition will be announced in the town hall of Ghent. Friday the 17th the festival will present the Closing Film : The Wrestler of Darren Aronofsky.
