Summer 1912. A 76-year-old painter, Mr. Ladmiral lives in a beautiful country house. He spends a lot of time in his garden, which he is very proud of. Every Sunday, his son Edouard-Gonzague, his wife Marie-Thérèse and their three offspring visit him. Like every Sunday, Mr. Ladmiral meets them at the station and like always, he is ten minutes late. The visit recreates a day like so many others, with their demonstrations of affection, their moments of boredom and the odd touch of malevolence. The unexpected arrival of Ladmiral’s young and modern daughter Irène brings the peaceful household atmosphere to an abrupt end. She is much younger than her brother and has a strong sense of freedom. And suddenly, Mr. Ladmiral feels he is growing old …
