Loneliness and isolation are a part of life for two mine keepers in an isolated mountain town. Their only flair of hope comes in the form of a small dog they find, a cracking transistor radio and an unknown woman they see walking in the distance. Only a man on a motorbike, who delivers them all kind of goods, and a team of miners sometimes occasionally interrupt their isolation. The presence of these strangers to their world disturb the lives of the watchmen, who simply have to learn to live with it. The two man, placed in difficult situations must, to survive, give meaning to that which on the face of it has little or none. Ali-Reza Amini esthablishes in ‘Tiny Snowflakes’ a distinctive style marked by plastic beauty. He plays with symbols, notably in his recurrent oppositions of obscurity and light, and cleverly uses static shots, with very carefully uses of static shots, with very carefully composed framing, to convey the two men’s feeling of abandonment and sense of always waiting.
