Fifteen-year-old Jimmy dreams of becoming a professional football player. Whenever he mucks about on his own he reveals a stunning ability to handle the ball, but out there on the football pitch, all his self-confidence drains away. Jimmy doesn’t have an easy time. His mother Donna has just split up with Harry, whom Jimmy liked very much. At school, he is bullied by Gorgeous Gordon Burley and his cronies. One evening, when Gorgeous and Psycho are chasing him down the empty streets of a derelict quarter, an old woman comes to his aid. When he leaves her apartment she gives him a pair of worn-down old football boots, adding that they belonged to one of Manchester City's greatest players and that they will give him magical power if he wears them on the football pitch …
