Four bad guys hijack a New York subway train, hold the passengers for a one million Dollar ransom and threaten to kill everyone. Leader Robert Shaw is a highly intelligent character
prepared for every possible response and both the Transit Authority Police and the New York
Police Department have a very tough job luring the criminals into an ambush. "The Taking of
Pelham 123" is a straightforward film in which there are no heroes. The crooks are really
ruthless and the authorities face one failure after another trying to catch them. Sargent presents
us with exciting shots of a subway train on the loose, the streets of New York turned upside
down by the police and the terror of the frustrated and frightened passengers. (wp)
