The Family Album

American independent film production has been making use of quoting forgotten films for years. Alan Berliner juxtaposes and juxtaposes new original footage with and against old material from long-forgotten films. In doing so, he puts together a colourful yet seamless collage of individuals and families, each with their own story of love, life and happiness. The gap between music and image intensifies the effect of surrealism in the so-called home movie, the private dream. (free to press file)
