Catherine Deane is a psychologist who has been experimenting with a radical new therapy that allows her to experience what is happening in another person's unconscious mind. When ingenious serial killer Carl Stargher goes into a coma, FBI Agent Peter Novak convinces her to use her therapy to enter the killer's demented synapses in order to save his final trapped victim who remains alive. Catherine agrees, but the criminal's mind is different from anything she has ever experienced before – so evil, so strong and so filled with monstrous images and thoughts that she may not be able to escape with her sanity intact.
