Charles Walters

The Barkleys of Broadway

109' - 1949 - Comedy, Music/Musical - Dialogue: French, English
Director: Charles Walters Composer: Harry Warren, Ira Gershwin With: Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Oscar Levant
Astaire and Rogers back together after ten years with new songs by Harry Warren (music) and lra Gershwin (lyrics), though none of them quite of the standard of the reprise of the Gershwin's 'They Can't Take That Away From Me'. Still, in all it was a highly enjoyable reunion, with some outstanding production numbers, perhaps most notably 'Shoes with Wings On' and the delightful walking number 'A Weekend in the Country'. They play a bickering husband-and-wife musical comedy team. - National Film Theatre, London
