Edition 2025
126' - 2025 - Crime, Drama, Comedy, Biography - Format: DCP - Dialogue: English
To provide for his daughter, Jeffrey Manchester robbed an entire chain of McDonald's. And that's just the beginning of this stranger-than-fiction biopic about the so-called ‘Roofman’ who led a double life from out a toy store and even found love along the way. Director Derek Cianfrance and lead actor Channing Tatum turn in a true crime story so charming it’s criminal.

In the category of “unbelievable but true” comes the story of Jeffrey Manchester. To support his daughter, the so-called "Roofman" robbed up to sixty McDonald’s outlets across the U.S. in the late 1990s—by cutting holes in their roofs. Thanks to his disarmingly friendly demeanor, he became something of a folk hero. And then there’s his daring escape from the police: hiding out for months inside a Toys “R” Us, of all places. In short, plenty of material for a lighthearted biopic—complete with a bona fide romance—shot on 35mm for that classic film texture. A surprise, perhaps, from director Derek Cianfrance, best known for brooding dramas like Blue Valentine (2010) and The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), though he remains true to his enduring theme: what parents will sacrifice for their children. Muscle-bound star Channing Tatum shed over 30 kilos to achieve a leaner look for the lead, and alongside Kirsten Dunst he delivers a performance of sheer firepower.
