Set on the eve of the opening of a new freeway, the film follows the increasingly volatile goings-on at a dinner party thrown by the freeway construction company's contracter, Padovani. In attendance at the boozy af/air is an assortment of corpulent politicians, swaggering mobsters, hustling hookers and frantic domestics. As the evening descends into debauchery, the corrupt bubble is threatened by prickling disturbances from the outside world: news reaches the party that an anti freeway demonstration is under way and Padovani's estranged wife shows up with her new husband.
