The story of a journey through time, of a man who lives for 400 years and becomes a woman. As a young nobleman, Orlando travels from the court of Elizabeth 1, to the deserts of centra! Asia. There, in the midst of war, he changes sex. As a woman, Orlando returns to 18th century London, where she /aces a choice - marry or lose everything. In the Victorian age, she sacrifices both love and inheritance. Finally Orlando emerges into the present - a 20th century of speed and noise - as an ordinary individual who in losing everything has gained herself.
