In pre-war colonial days, two boys are born on the same day: Johan, the son of a Dutch plantation owner, and Oeroeg, son of the lndonesian foreman on the plantation. Against all rules they are sworn comrades. After the World War II, Johan (now 24) returns to Indonesia as soldier of a special task force assigned to restore the Dutch authority, now undermined by Indonesian agitators calling for independence. Upon his arrival, Johan rushes to his former residence and discovers hls father brutally murdered. In a flash he sees the face of the murderer, in which he thinks to recognize Oeroeg...
