Making Opera

Edition 1988
87' - 1988 - Documentary, Music/Musical - Dialogue: English
Director: Anthony Azzopardi Composer: Giuseppe Verdi
A stunningly beautiful and spectacular documentary which follows the day-to-day process of the staging of a grand opera during a rehearsal period of 21 days. The opera is Giuseppe Verdi's La Forza del Destino, a new production of the Canadian Opera Company involving the work of more than 500 people of various nationalities. The film shows the individual steps: the music rehearsals, staging rehearsals, chorus/ensemble music rehearsals, the dancers, orchestra readings, costume and wig fittings, cast and orchestra rehearsals, technical staging, special effects and how in the final week of this process, these components are brought together and orchestrated into a spectacular production, into that original vision as first conceived by the director. Making Opera is an entertaining and revealing documentary reaching out to a wide audience, not only to the aficionados of opera and those interested in the arts, but also to those who might never have seen or heard an opera before.
