Los Olvidados looks at the lives of young people growing up in the slums and in particular at the desperately inevitable process by which an older, more corrupt gang leader hounds and destroys a younger, more innocent one before being destroyed himself. Bunuel: "For me Los Olvidados is a film of a social struggle ... Apart from that, I absolutely do not wish to make a film that stated a particular case. I had observed some things which moved me, which I wanted to transfer to the screen - but always, with the kind of love I bear for the instinctive and the irrational".
