Lord of the Flies, is a fable about the kind of social psychological regression a community of very young boys might suffer if isolated on a desert island for some years without adults. In
spite of the attempts at civilized leadership by Ralph, who is twelve, and the short-sighted, the
boys who are mostly ten years of age or even younger decline into instinctual savagery under
the influence of Jack, the destructive bully with a talent for hunting and killing. The boys
chosen by Peter Brook were taken to live on an island off Puerto Rico and submitted to the
gruelling experience of making real the truth of Golding's fable. (R.Manvell, New Cinema in
Britain)
