Franz, a small pimp, finds himself in trouble: used to working off his own bat and for his own account, he is now to start working for a large gangster syndicate. However, Franz refuses to join the syndicate and they set a tail on him to soften him up. While he is held prisoner by the syndicate, a spontaneous friendship develops between Franz and his tail Bruno. When he is set free, Franz returns to his girlfriend Joanna, the prostitute who earns the money for the two of them. Bruno visits him and manages to drive a wedge between them. He manages to tie Franz to him and thus to the syndicate as they commit a number of criminal offences together. Joanna becomes suspicious and does not trust the unscrupulous Bruno. She truly loves Franz and to save him from the worst, she informs the police of his plans without knowing that the syndicate has already set a killer onto her.
