A small village in the Corbieres. An old man, the story-teller, tells us five stories of his repertoire. In them is all is malice, his knowledge, his wisdom and the self-derision that makes a peasant what he is. The first story is at first comical, then tragical. the second tells how a pig becomes lawful mayor of the village. the third, "The monk changed into a donkey", contains 4 characters. The fourth story is a facetious, brief poem. the fifth is a tragical story about carnival.
