Early 1950. A labour camp for women in the north of the country. Here the events of the film develop; the plot is the love story of Maria, a young convict from Lenlngrad and Nikifor, a guard officer. In the camp, Maria gives birth to a child and in order to save it she has to sign a denunciation of the baby's father. Fear, betrayal, depreciation of human life and personality reign in the country. There were still three years before Stalin's death and six before the Party Congress would denounce his cult...
