It Happened Here

It Happened Here is set in Great Britain in 1944, four years after the supposed succesful invasion by Germany. After a period of passivity a resistance movement has emerged and is gathering strength. Pauline is a nurse. After a skirmish in which many partisans die she decides that order must be restored. She makes her way to London and joins a collaborationist group, but nevertheless tries to help a doctor who is sheltering a wounded partisan. When the doctor is arrested, Pauline comes under suspicion and is posted off to a remote nursing home. This is an apparently idyllic retreat for tubercular East European workers and their families...
