Many films have been made about the generation gap between teenagers and adults, but rarely, if ever, as subtle and gripping as Fien Troch's fourth film. In the oppressive, almost square picture frame - which gives the characters little space - the camera observes a number of young people from a well-off Flanders. In short scenes in which every image and glance has its meaning, Troch portrays with empathy these YouTube-era teenagers, who get into trouble for various reasons. Sometimes with tragic results. Constantly, they are glued to their phones. Occasionally, the picture is filled only with what can be seen on their smartphones. As confrontational as Home is, it is also a cinematic creation without a false note. And we are not just referring to Johnny Jewel's excellent score.
