Forget Baghdad

Director Samir Music (original) Rabih Abou-Khalil
112' - 2002 - Documentary - Format: 35mm - Dialogue: Arabic, Hebrew, English
This work offers a filmic reflection upon the clichés of “the Jew” and “the Arab” in the last hundred years of cinema, combined with interviews by four former Iraqi-Jewish communists who now live in exile in Israel. They talk about their lives and express their positions in the debates about Middle-East politics. They have been assimilated in a former enemy territory – where do they feel their homeland to be? Samir interweaves the various levels to create an artistic and entertaining montage film. With skill and humor he builds an impressive collage around the notions of territory and identity.
