Three actresses -Liz, Marianne and Gunilla- are in a production of Aristophanes’ Lysistrata. Each has an unhappy personal life, suffering boorish husbands or married lovers. In the process the play begins to influence them. The three start thinking of their lives in a more humorous way, they begin to realise that the play is a tragedy after all. Led by Liz, the actresses begin to stand up for their rights as women. The film is a game played by women, in a light-hearted manner, about very serious matters. We see how eccentric, often funny, and very positive the minds of three women work.
