As far as his cat Francis is concerned, Gustav - who writes cheap romantic novels - is not exactly the most intelligent of humans. Just listen to the baby-talk he uses to communicate with his cats. He can’t be any smarter than any of the other cat owners; otherwise why would he have listened to his supposedly best friend Archie and moved into this dilapidated apartment? Francis hates moving to a new home because it invariably means running afoul of the cats who have already staked out the territory. When Francis ventures outside he discovers the corpse of another feline, this one the victim not of humans but of a neck bite from another cat...
