Australia towards the end of the last century. A young man named Peter is banished, "in the name of the law", to a remote island called Priest's Island. Under penalty of death he is forbidden ever to set foot on the mainland again. His crime? He "borrowed" a couple of sheep to facilitate his marriage to Jean, the girl he loves. The sheep were to be part of the necessary dowry. Utterly alone on his island, Peter is lonely and plagued by memories of Jean and the past. Gradually, with the help of a ghost, a metaphysical character who provides him with spiritual support, he comes to terms with his situation. It is not easy, but in time, he manages to adapt to his new surroundings.
