The film opens with Erik falling in love with a girl just as he kills her, piercing her heart with his sword while at a raiding/pillaging party. Spurred by her death he decides to try and bring the Age of Ragnarok - where men fight and kill - to an end, and seeks advice from Freya, who tells him he must travel over the edge of the world. He sets off with an unruly band of followers -including the local blacksmith who wants Ragnarok to continue as it helps his swordmaking business and who plots to scupper the mission - and is pursued by halfdan the Black, the local warlord who quite enjoys Ragnarok and wants it to continue. After overcoming the fearsome Dragon of the North Sea with judicious use of a pillow, they arrive at Hy-Brasil (Celtic for Atlantis) ... (Variety, 6-9-89)
