Twelve-year-old Emil lives with his father in a small town. Dad has been unemployed for a while, but has just managed to snag a job as a salesman; however, in a cruel stroke of bad luck, he crashes his car and winds up in hospital. While his father is recovering, Emil is sent to Berlin to spend a few days with Mrs. Hummel, a minister in a protestant church. In the train he runs across the slick Max Grundeis who drugs and robs him. When he finally arrives in Berlin’s Zoo Station, Emil meets the cheeky Pony and her gang of street kids. Together they try to find the gangster, who haunts the posh hotel Adlon as a hotel thief. (www.variety.com)
