As an American critic wrote, it's the most ingenious screenplay idea that Woody Allen never came up with. That's Dream Scenario for which Kristoffer Borgli received assistance from Ari Aster as a producer.
The role of his dreams: that's one way to describe the character Paul Matthews, portrayed by Nicolas Cage. He plays a balding, bearded biology professor who would easily win the title of Mr. Average at a typical election. But one day, something strange happens: he appears in one of his daughter's dreams. Then in an ex's dream. This might not be surprising until he starts featuring in the dreams of millions of people on Earth who have never heard of the man, let alone know what he looks like. He becomes a celebrity and unfortunately quickly discovers the downside of global fame. Dream Scenario marks the English-language debut of Norwegian director Kristoffer Borgli, whose biting comedy Sick of Myself was in theaters earlier this year. After Dream Scenario it's clear: if you're looking for comedies with a twist, Borgli is the right person to turn to.
“Just when you thought Nicolas Cage’s filmography couldn’t get any weirder, along comes Dream Scenario to mess with your head. Most actors only dream of a role as memorable as Paul Matthews. Cage makes the most of it in Sick of Myself director Kristoffer Borgli's brilliant look at viral celebrity.” - Variety
